Two histories in the same museum : Air Mail Service and the Landing.

The America : 29th June 1927, aboard Fokker AMERICA , US airmen Byrd, Acosta , Balchen & Noville took off from Roosevelt Field in New York on the first official airmail link from USA to FRANCE. Thick fog over Paris on the 30th of June forced them to change course and they ditched off the beach of Ver-sur-Mer the 1st of July.

On a huge globe, discover and compare the various paths taken by the transatlantic pioneers from 1910 till1930. A diorama takes you through the high-lights of the America’s 42-hours flight. The museum retraces great moments of the history of the airmail service and the adventures of its pilots.. Documents and objects illustrate the human and scientific mission of Byrd and his crew.

The “Gold Beach” museum tells the story of the British invasion in this area, from the painstaking reconnaissance of the beaches to the storming of the beach by the British 50th Infantry Division on 6th June 1944.

It pays tribute to all the soldiers who helped 50th Infantry Division attain their assigned objectives, and the servicemen of the Royal Navy and RAF, without whom the invasion would not have been possible.Discover this story by means of dioramas, pedagogic panels, artefacts and souvenirs given by D-Day veterans.
